BCCI Big Decision- T20 World Cup 2021 will be played in UAE instead of India
In view of Corona, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big decision regarding the T20 World Cup 2021 to be held this year. BCCI announced that the T20 World Cup 2021 will be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) instead of India. BCCI President Sourav Ganguly and Secretary Jay Shah have confirmed this. He said that the T20 World Cup to be held in India will be shifted to UAE. The remaining matches of IPL 2021 are also to be played in the UAE itself.
BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla said that there was a deadline to decide the venue of the World Cup and we had to inform the ICC about our decision. In such a situation, there was a meeting between the BCCI office-bearers on a conference call, in which the situation of Corona was discussed. No one is clear about what is going to happen after 2-3 months. The ICC had given BCCI time till June 28 to clear its position regarding the T20 World Cup.
Shukla further said that the BCCI has taken the decision keeping all the things in mind that the ICC will be informed about the shift of the World Cup to the UAE. This is the idol venue after India. We wanted to host the World Cup in India and our first priority was India. Shukla told that there is not going to be any change in the dates of the world. It will start soon after IPL. The qualifiers are likely to take place in Oman and the rest of the matches will be held at three venues – Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah.
T20 World Cup will start from October 17
The T20 World Cup will begin in the UAE from October 17 while the final will be played on November 14. The World Cup will start soon after the second phase of IPL 2021 is over. It is to be known that the second phase of IPL will be held in UAE from 19 September to 15 October. In such a situation, the T20 World Cup will start only two days after the IPL.
