Team India’s former Test player Wasim Jaffer has strongly criticized the impact player rule. Jaffer has termed this rule as a hindrance in the cricketers’ game. He has said that because of this rule all-rounders are not able to bowl much. Jaffer has demanded to remove this rule from IPL. Wasim Jaffer said on his official X The lack of all-rounders and batsmen not bowling is a major area of concern for Indian cricket.
This rule was implemented in the IPL 2023 season. Let us tell you that Wasim Jaffer, the legendary player of Indian domestic cricket, is from Mumbai. As of March 2013, he is the leading run-scorer in Ranji and Irani Trophy and also has the most FC centuries to his name. A right-handed opening batsman, Jaffer started his career in school cricket on the grounds of Mumbai in the 1996-97 season. At the age of just 15, he has scored 400 unbeaten runs.
What is an impact player?
The impact player rule allows teams to field an extra bowler or batsman. This allows teams to substitute a player during a match. After the introduction of this rule, IPL teams mostly prefer to take the field with 6 batsmen and 5 bowlers. The impact player rule allows them to play an extra batsman or bowler depending on the match situation.

Jaffer posted on his X (formerly Twitter) account – ‘I think IPL needs to remove the impact player rule, because it is not encouraging all-rounders to bowl more. Lack of all-rounders and batsmen not bowling is a major matter of concern for Indian cricket.
